JOB SUMMARY: The Program Chair will develop the program for student admittance in Fall of 2010. Program Chair responsibilities include guiding faculty in the scheduling of courses, clinical coordinator, student advising and scheduling, program curriculum coordination, providing reports, and assisting in program marketing. This position has the responsibility of providing high-quality classroom instruction and leadership to the students of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required. Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential. Beyond instructional responsibility, this position requires advising and providing leadership to students. This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork skills and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, the Advisory Committee, other divisions of the College, and the community. Full-time faculty teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical for instructors. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree. Must be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or an Occupational Therapist. Must hold or be eligible for such professional license as required by the State of Iowa. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy, including practice as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, including administrative or supervisory experience, and at least 1 year of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities. Must have an understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants as evidenced by experience in practice, educational, and/or volunteer activities with occupational therapy assistants. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and the public.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Twelve-month contractual position. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program.
