Reporting to the director of rehabilitation services, you will evaluate the occupational therapy needs of assigned patients, establish goals, and plan/perform treatment to assist the patient in meeting occupational therapy goals.
Responsibilities
• In order to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient, you will:
• Provide occupational therapy treatment to an adult and elderly population that includes but is not limited to activities of daily living (ADL); maximizing physical and cognitive endurance; increasing range of motion, strength, and coordination; providing for proper body positioning; maximizing self-care independence (feeding, hygiene, bathing, dressing) and visual perceptual abilities; providing perceptual and cognitive strategies; increasing cognitive skills with an emphasis on orientation, judgment, and safety awareness; and maximizing transfers, functional ability, and mobility, and home-management activities.
• Work with family and treatment team to plan an age-specific program to meet each patient's individual treatment goals and promote the highest level of function and independence possible.
• Document patient evaluation and progress in the computerized medical record.
• Participate in or prepare reports for Medically Complex interdisciplinary team meetings, staffings, and rounds.
• Provide family education and recommend further therapy.
• Assist the patient in recognizing/adjusting to the limitations of the disability.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must possess the following:
Skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family, and team members.
• Organizational skills to plan and implement age-appropriate occupational therapy programs and treatment plans for a diverse patient population.
• Physical ability to transfer and position patients, move equipment, and fabricate splints and orthotics.
Knowledge/Experience/Licensure
• Bachelor's or entry-level master's degree in occupational therapy from a college or university accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) required.
• Experience or student clinical affiliation in acute-care and/or inpatient rehabilitation essential.
• Current Illinois Occupational Therapy License and current CPR certification required.
• Current certification by the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred.
